Jail Break

Often times in life people choose to let their situation or circumstances dictate their attitude and emotions. Been there, done that and I still do it at times! It’s easy to be cheerful and happy when everything is going good, but what about when things aren’t going so good, what do you do then?  Do you find yourself sad, depressed, in a bad mood, angry or bitter? Have your circumstances IMPRISONED your spirit until it seems there is no hope and no way out?

Well, that is at least until your circumstance changes again for the better, right!  If you find yourself here, the bible has your KEY.  There is "A Way Out"!!

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.—Acts 16:25-26

Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into prison for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the townsfolk. They could have allowed this terrible situation to stop them from ever preaching the Gospel again. They could’ve allowed themselves to become sad and withdrawn. They could’ve gotten a bad attitude and spouted off to the prison guards. There are any number of emotions they could’ve allowed to take over. Instead they did not allow this situation to dampen their spirits and at midnight, in the darkest hour, they began to pray and sing praises to the Lord. It was at that very moment the earth was shaken and Paul and Silas were loosed from their prison, and not just Paul and Silas, but the other prisoners heard them and they were loosed also.

Wow, what an impact a right spirit can have! Not just on us but on those around us. All of us have difficult times, troubles and bad days. You may even find yourself right now in the midst of the darkest hour of your life, but you don’t HAVE to let it defeat you or imprison you. Lift up your hands and voice to God and praise Him in spite of your current situation.  By doing so, He will open the prison doors wide and loose the bands that are gripping your heart. Not to mention, those around you will see your spirit of hope during your time of crisis and will be encouraged as well.

It's been said "misery loves company", but I have good news, "happiness is contagious".  You CAN be happy even when everything has gone wrong; and, when you smile, whistle and praise during those times, everyone else will smile, whistle and praise right along with you.  Everyone can have a good day, but it all starts with you.  What do you do when bad times come your way?  Do you continue to live in prison or do you reach for the key the bible provides.  The decision is yours.  Why not have yourself a good day!

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear—1 Peter 3:15
